1,385 dogs were vaccinated by the Office of the City Veterinarian during the Massive  Anti-Rabies Vaccination on March 18.

Services offered are free for all dog owners of Barangay Poblacion.

This serves as the highlight of the Rabies Awareness Month this March.

“This is an annual activity that we do as an effective way against the spread of rabies. This is free for all pet owners”, City Veterinarian Dr. Eugene Gornez said.

25 vaccination stations were set up around the Poblacion to make it accessible for all pet owners to avail of the free services.

Pet owners were made to fill up vaccination cards before the Anti-Rabies vaccines were administered to their pets.

On the other hand, 26 male dogs and 3 cats were castrated by the OCVET at the City Plaza. Added to this is the spaying or ligation procedure done to 12 female dogs.

Said services were also given for free.

Helping the OCVET personnel were Animal Health Workers of the 39 other villages in the city.

The number was recorded after the OCVET tapped local radio stations in announcing the scheduled anti rabies vaccination.

In a related activity, the OCVET will be in Barangay Balabag on March 23 to conduct the same free anti rabies vaccination.

There were no recorded deaths related to rabies among dog bite victims last year, personnel from the City Health Office confirmed.
